Mental Health During Quarantine

With the pace of the normal world, we are blessed with so many distractions that allow us to completely ignore the problems in our heads. However, with this new slow-paced “normal”, we’ve been completely stripped of all distractions, meaning we’re forced to confront the elephant in the room. For some, not being able to ignore your thoughts may make you anxious and uneasy. But you’re not alone.

Some think of quarantine as hell. Some think of quarantine as heaven. It’s all about perspective and how you shape scenarios in your head. Rather than stressing about something that will soon be a distant memory, why not use this opportunity to do something you wouldn’t do at life’s usual pace.

And yes, we’ve all seen the suggested 1-hour outdoor exercise, but let’s be real. Not all of us are down for that. After 20 years of little to no exercise, they can’t expect us to suddenly become health gurus. While it’s good to stay active, that doesn’t mean you should give in to the ‘5k Run Challenge’ your friend just nominated you for. Maybe keeping your mind active is what’s important? Find a new way of unleashing all the creativity that sits in your head or practice positive thoughts. At the end of the day, it’s mind over matter. And our minds are what matter.
