Eco-Anxiety

Eco-anxiety is a new term being used to describe an overwhelming feeling of panic or worry about the environment. With sea-levels rising and forest fires ravaging communities, the latest research is telling us that we only have until 2027 before we cross the threshold for dangerous warming (Source). It’s no wonder then that young people are experiencing more fear about climate change than ever before.

It may be hard to tackle eco-anxiety when it feels like you are one small person against the world, I know I feel it! However, we also need to highlight businesses that are fighting for change and encourage more companies to do the same. It’s a group effort at the end of the day!

Here are 3 UK based companies doing their bit for climate change and the environment.

Olio is an app which now has over 3 million users! Started in 2015 by two women passionate about reducing food waste, this small company has shared over 17 million meals. As a user of Olio, I would definitely recommend joining if you want to save some money on groceries and reduce your food waste. The act of sharing will also certainly add some positivity to your day.

Another company doing great things in London is Gaia Therapy Project. They offer affordable psychotherapy and counselling for anyone who may be struggling with their mental health. Situated in Hackney City farm, Gaia works closely with nature and connecting to the environment. Including offering opportunities to get involved with the farm if you wish.

Finally, Global generation are an educational charity, who grow fruit and vegetables with communities, and provide educational cafes to locals. They have been working with people in Camden and Islington and to date they have worked with over 4,500 local children, young people, and their families. A great way to connect with nature and de-stress, they also have family workshops, which provide a great way for children to learn about the environment whilst having fun!
